T minus 8 sleeps…
Thursday, January 17th, 2008It’s January and we’re on the final countdown. I’ve gone from hoping the twins stay put until their due date to really really wishing they’d get a move on and make their way into the world early (as everyone had previously assured me they would do). One of the reasons is a sudden rash (diagnosed as PUPPP) which began on my belly around New Year and rapidly spread to cover my hips, butt, thighs, arms, calves and feet. It’s incredibly itchy and was driving me completely mad and keeping me awake.
The pics here are from the early stages – it got worse. While the only real ‘cure’ for it seems to be giving birth a regime of cortisone cream, antihistamines, bathing in Chinese herbs, slathering myself in various moisturisers and calamine lotion, a bit of jojoba and some tea tree oil, as well as ice packs and icy foot baths for the worst of it, seems to have brought it under control. Though I am still quite itchy, it is not so intense, the rash is in retreat, and (with the help of an antihistamine) I can sleep at night again. This is a good thing because unless the bubs decide otherwise the hospital has decreed that the babies will be born on the 25th of January by C-section, which means I only have 8 more full nights of sleep left before sometime in 2009 (if they’re anything like their sister).
The C-section is because of a stubborn twin alpha, who seems quite comfortable to remain breech. There is now so little room in there that for him/her to spin around would require a bit of negotiation with their sister (it is apparently still possible, however unlikely). Twin alpha, in addition to being breech, is still gender unknown.
So how big does this thing get?
